Three service areas. One unhurried approach.

Each of our services is built around the same commitment — to work carefully, to communicate clearly, and to keep the family's interests at the centre throughout.

Our Methodology

How we approach each matter

Every engagement at Anjung Damai begins the same way: we listen. We do not arrive at a first consultation with ready-made solutions or predetermined routes. We need to understand the specific circumstances — including the relationships involved, the history, and what the family is actually hoping for — before we can offer meaningful guidance.

From that starting point, we work systematically through the legal options available, set out what is realistic, and develop a clear plan with the client. The plan is documented. Progress is reported. And if circumstances change — as they often do in family matters — we adapt the approach together.

1

Assess

Initial consultation to understand the full circumstances, relationships involved, and desired outcomes.

2

Advise

Set out the available legal routes, realistic timelines, and likely costs in plain language — with a written summary to follow.

3

Act

Represent, prepare submissions, attend proceedings, and handle correspondence on the client's behalf throughout the matter.

4

Close

Debrief with the client at conclusion, confirm next steps or ongoing obligations, and ensure the matter is properly resolved.

Advisory Service

Pre-Adoption Legal Counsel

A considered advisory service for couples and individuals at the early stages of considering adoption. We walk through eligibility requirements under the Registration of Adoptions Act 1952 and the Adoption Act 1952, explain the differences between available adoption routes in Malaysia, and discuss realistic timeline expectations. Clients leave with a written summary that supports their decision-making.

Eligibility assessment for both local and cross-cultural adoptions
Procedural pathway explanation — court vs registry routes
Documentation checklist for the chosen pathway
Written summary issued after each session
Follow-up consultation available as circumstances develop

Representation

Family Property Disputes

Representation for family members in dispute over property — most commonly siblings disagreeing over inherited or ancestral property, separated couples dealing with jointly owned land or homes, and families where no distribution plan exists. The approach depends on what the circumstances call for: negotiation, formal mediation, or court proceedings. Throughout, communication between the parties is kept as measured and civil as possible.

Inherited and ancestral property disputes
Jointly held property between separated couples
Negotiation and mediation as first approach
Formal court proceedings where required
Sabah native customary land familiarity where relevant
